Launch for #ReadingRainbow App Event

Who doesn't remember watching Reading Rainbow on PBS as a child? I know I do. I loved reading and learning about different places and things. When the show went off the air was was sad. The show is back but now in the digital age.

LeVar Burton Reading Rainbow App Launch

Different Kingdoms

I was so excited when I was invited to the Reading Rainbow App launch event.  Just like the television show the app is geared towards children ages 3 to 9. The app launches in a hot air balloon and you travel to places such as the Animal Kingdom, Genius Academy, My Friends My Family and more. When you chose Animal Kingdom you are shown books related to animals.

Can check out 5 books @ a time
For Parents

Kids are able to take out 5 books at a time in there backpack. Once you are done you simply do a book return and are able to take out another one. For parents, the app lets you know what your child's reading progress.  This is my FAVORITE feature.  You can also receive emails giving you questions to ask your children about the books they have read. The app features a read along (narrated) book.  The app is very interactive with videos and more.

LeVar Burton and me

In the Questions and Answers, I asked if the app was going to be available in other languages and was told it will be forthcoming within the year. The app will be free so you can sample one book. If you choose a 2nd book the app will cost $9.99 a month but for 6 months it will be $24.99. (This is an approximation.) The official launch for the app is tomorrow. For multiple family members a family plan will be forthcoming as well.

My favorite part of the event was hearing  a snip-bit of "Butterflies in the Skies" song and the delicious cake made from the Cake Boss.

Follow Reading Rainbow on Facebook and Twitter for the official launch tomorrow and exclusives.

Disclaimer: I was invited as media to this event and received a gift bag at the end of the event.  No other compensation was received and all the opinions in this post are my own.

  1. This is such a great app! I love when apps are focused on educational initiatives rather than just entertainment. I am super excited that is interactive for parents to be able to track the progress. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for sharing!

  2. That looks like a great app! I am always looking for ones to use with the kiddos! Thanks for sharing!!!

  3. I love that it gives you questions to ask your children to see if they were really reading! When I used to baby sit my cousin he seemed to read too fast to comprehend what was going on and then I would have to speed read the chapter just to ask him questions about it!

  4. I loved Reading Rainbow! I could not wait for Sesame Street to be over because RR was on next! This is a fantastic idea!

  5. Really awesome! Congratulations, reading rainbows app is a great quality app. I wish the subscription price was a little lower, but I'm sure it's worth it. All the best! Also please visit my site and sign up for my giveaway: http://goo.gl/bOSlA
