DIY: French Manicure at Home

Have you tried doing a french manicure at home?

Have you thought I can't do it, its too hard.  Well you've come to the right place.

I will show you how you can make your own french manicure at home.

You will need the following items:

1. White nail polish
2. Clear nail polish
3. cotton balls or q-tip
4. nail filer
5. nail clippers
6. A nail buffer
7. nail polish remover
8. cuticle remover

First, remove any nail polish that is on your nails.  Use a nail filer to file your nails to shape.  Use the cuticle remover to either cut or push it back.  (I prefer to cut them) once done.  I use a nail buffer to buff my nails.  It removes any dead or ruff skin on your nail.

Once its done, I wash my nails to remove any residues.  I dry my nails and start to paint my nails.  I take the clear nail polish and put 1 coat on all my nails evenly.

Next I follow the shape of my nail and draw a white line on it. The line does not have to be perfect.  My lines are not perfect. It will come easier as you practice on your nails.  If you can't do it, take a piece of tape and put it on your nail after your nails dry from the clear polish.  Place the tape on your nails and the white polish can be straighter.

Once they are all done. I put on the last coat of clear nail polish and let them dry.  For me it usually takes 1 hour for my nails to completely dry.

Voa-la the finished piece. Its fun to practice on your nails.  The lines do not need to be perfect. As you can see from my nails, the line matches the shape of my nails.  Some are thicker than others.

  2. I'm left handed and I have tried to do a french manicure before. The nails on my right hand would look awesome and the nails on my left hand would look like a toddler painted them. I need to try it your way!

  5. Although I've never had a french manicure, I do think they are so pretty. I wish my nails looked as nice as yours! I do have all the components, maybe I'll give it a try. I can always remove it if I do a terrible job.

  6. I have tried to give myself a French manicure before and it didn't look nearly as nice as yours. I suppose if I practice it will get better, but I can do very little with my left hand so I would probably need a friend to help me.

  8. French manicures are very popular around here. I've had them once or twice, I know a lady that only gets them.

  9. I feel like a traitor to my sex to admit I have never had my nails done. Ever. In fact, if I went to a nail place they would have to declare a state of emergency over my nails. This is a great DIY guide to do it myself at home.

  14. I am terrible at doing my nails! I can barely get one color to look decent. I've never been able to get even close to a decent french manicure on my own.

  15. This looks beautiful. My problem is my cuticles. They always look ragged. A gorgeous French manicure would certainly make them look better. I'm going to try it.
