Wedding DIY Ideas For Brides On A Budget ~ Favors + Free Printable

My next post for brides on a budget features wedding favors. Last year, I attended a church wedding. Tradition is once the bride and groom walk out of the church you throw rice.  The wedding party was told that you no longer do this as the rice can hurt the birds.

I have heard several couples repeat this to me. As I am planning on exchanging my vows outside, I started to look for alternatives of things I could do instead of throwing rice. I was searching through Oriental Trading and decided to go with bubbles.  This is as simple as it gets for favors. You take out the wand and blow bubbles to celebrate. It is inexpensive and everyone loves them, especially kids.

I received the Personalized Two Hearts Bubble Tubes and the labels above.  I was excited that I could personalize them. It's nice when you can add your personal touch to them without breaking the bank.

Oriental Trading carries Personalized Hershey’s® Kisses® Two Hearts Chocolate Candy.

You can get personalized labels to place on the bottom of the Hershey Kiss.  I have a twist on how I will use it below.  The Hershey Kisses candies will go to the place card favor boxes below.

I will be using the Two Hearts Wedding Place Card Favor Boxes in two ways.  One for treats for my guest and two for the kids at my wedding.  After the outdoor ceremony, my guest will be heading towards the reception.  I will not be using these as place cards.

Instead, I wanted to add a touch of sweets to my tables. Each table will have a variety of candies placed inside these boxes.  I purchased my candies the day after Valentine’s Day and will do it again after Easter.  The candies are much cheaper. Just be sure to check the expiration on the bags before you purchase.

For the guest that will be bringing their children with them and as well as myself.  I wanted to do a twist to these place card favors.  I created a FREE Kids Wedding Activity Favor Printable.

Each box will contain a crayon and four activity sheets to keep the kids entertained.  I created this printable with my children in mind.  When planning a wedding we often forget that kids will be attending and get bored easily.

My daughter loves to color and play games. One box features double hearts that can be colored in.  A maze puzzle and a couple of Tic-Tac-Toe games that anyone can play. You can also turn the pages around and use the back as well. You can purchase a box of crayons and stick one/two in each with the sheets.

I wanted to give a box of candies away as favors.  My only hold back was the plastic boxes or tin cans were flimsy with a plastic see-through film that can break.  You needed something to hold them in place or the items you placed inside would fall out. I wanted something sturdy and began looking.  I came up with a solution that was outside the box that was affordable and sturdy.  I found a plastic storage case for beads that was see through and had a screw top lid. It is a set of 25 pieces at Michael’s stores. I purchased 2 sets of them for a total of 50 for my guest.  I used my coupon and paid $19.98 for them.

I went to Oriental Trading online and they had the Hershey Kisses with Personalized Labels.  I took the label and placed it on top of the storage lid and it was perfect.  I liked this storage case as it can be reused.

I received the Vintage Lace Paper Fan but would not recommend them.  I was going to have it personalized but upon opening it and closing it several times it would jam. See the video above for more details.  I wish that could be corrected as it is a good price for your money.

Planning a wedding should not break your bank.  You just have to think outside the box at times to save money.  Visit Oriental Trading for more wedding supplies. Remember coupons are your friend as well as free shipping.

  2. Love this! I've been married twice (I'm widowed) and both weddings we did on a budget. I loved it! Made centerpieces and decorated the facility ourselves and used an IPOD play list as our DJ. It was perfect and made sure to stay under our $5k budget for it all including ceremony and reception locations and photographer.

  3. I really love the kids activity favors! That's such a smart idea. I made candy for our guests. It was such a task to make them, but it was fun. I wanted something that could be consumed or used, but also wouldn't cost us a huge amount.

  7. I WISH we had done bubbles at my wedding. We did birdseed (was years ago), and it got all up in my dress. Remember having to jump up and down to try to work it all out in a hundred pound dress.
