Who doesn't remember watching Reading Rainbow on PBS as a child? I know I do. I loved reading and learning about different places and things. When the show went off the air was was sad. The show is back but now in the digital age.

I was so excited when I was invited to the Reading Rainbow App launch event. Just like the television show the app is geared towards children ages 3 to 9. The app launches in a hot air balloon and you travel to places such as the Animal Kingdom, Genius Academy, My Friends My Family and more. When you chose Animal Kingdom you are shown books related to animals.
|Can check out 5 books @ a time|
Kids are able to take out 5 books at a time in there backpack. Once you are done you simply do a book return and are able to take out another one. For parents, the app lets you know what your child's reading progress. This is my FAVORITE feature. You can also receive emails giving you questions to ask your children about the books they have read. The app features a read along (narrated) book. The app is very interactive with videos and more.

In the Questions and Answers, I asked if the app was going to be available in other languages and was told it will be forthcoming within the year. The app will be free so you can sample one book. If you choose a 2nd book the app will cost $9.99 a month but for 6 months it will be $24.99. (This is an approximation.) The official launch for the app is tomorrow. For multiple family members a family plan will be forthcoming as well.
My favorite part of the event was hearing a snip-bit of "Butterflies in the Skies" song and the delicious cake made from the Cake Boss.
Follow Reading Rainbow on Facebook and Twitter for the official launch tomorrow and exclusives.
