My #DisneySide @HomeCelebrationToddler Party

I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration.  All opinions expressed in this post are my own.
I applied to host a #DisneySide party on a whim.  I didn't think that I would be chosen out of the tons of applications that were sent.  To my astonishment, I got an email with the words CONGRATULATIONS - You're a Host on it.  It made my day.  I didn't know which package I was going to be sent. All I knew was that it was going to be awesome whatever they sent.

I got a girl themed box with nail polish.  My son wasn't too happy at our un-boxing as he said it was all for a girls and nothing for him.  I told him that it was alright as that meant I would have to get the boys somethings that were invited.  That put a big smile on his face.

I had to reschudule my party several times due to the weather. I scheduled a party and my area got hit with a blizzard.  I had to cancel it a 2nd time due to ice as roads were terrible to travel.  I finally was able to host my #DisneySide party at my daughter's daycare, Moving Up Children's Center.  I cannot show the children's faces, I can however show pictures with there backs towards the camera or show part of there body.

Start of the Party

I brought the dessert and crafts to my daughter's daycare. The staff helped me set up.  All the kids had fun playing pin the smile on mickey.  My box didn't include the smiles but that didn't stop me from creating my own. I used the picture from the cake pan and made copies of mickey's smile from that and voila.

Pin Smile On Mickey

I had two very happy toddlers.  The boy and girl that were the closest won. The girl won a Palace Pet and the boy a Buzz Lightyear toy.

Enjoying Mickey Cupcakes

We then moved on to eat the mini Mickey cupcakes after playing the game. Once finished we moved onto crafts.  I saw a a balloon Baymax printable that you could make. I printed the instructions and cut out all the pieces.  I then put them in the Minnie Mouse ziploc that was included in my box.

DIY Baymax Robot

A party is not a party if there isn't balloons present. While each child ate, the staff and I got out the ziploc bags and tape.  We started to inflate each balloon for the kids.  We then had the kids attach the head and arms and put it on the base.  I used a smaller balloon then the one in the instruction sheet.  You can see by the picture above our results.

My daughter & I showing our #DisneySide

After the crafts were done we moved onto the Mickey Gelatin Dessert. I purchased 3 packs of Jello, mini oreo cookies and the whip cream.  I then put whip cream on each and gave one to each child to decorate. They could put the mini oreo cookies for ears anyway they liked.  Some Mickey's never got ears as it was gone before I set it down. Below are the step by step instruction on how you can make your very own Mickey Gelatin Desserts.

DIY Mickey Gelatin Dessert Step by Step

DIY Mickey Gelatin Dessert

You will need:

  1. Whip cream
  2. Powder gelatin (you can make your own & follow the box directions) or ready-made gelatin
  3. Mini oreo cookies

Super easy to make. Just spread the whip cream onto the gelatin. Next place the mini oreo's into position and your done.

Goody Bag

All the kids had a blast. I gave the dessert above to the staff and one of the parents.  It was delicious.  Each child received a goody plus the HP photos pack and Disney Tags.  I purchased toy Cars in the photo for all the boys and gave the nail polishes to the girls.  The party was a success and all of the children were super happy that it was hard for my daughter to take her nap as she wanted to play.

I was so happy that I got a sample of Snuggle, All and Wisk in my box.  My daughter's Minnie shirt got stained with cupcake icing and gelatin.   I popped it in the washing machine using the All Mighty pacs OXI and the new Snuggles Scent Boosters.  My clothes came out clean and smelled good. Thank you to the sponsors Disney Parks, HP, Wisk, All, Snuggle, and MomSelect, Leanne Jabubowski and Jamie  Langdon for choosing and allowing me to show you my #DisneySide @HomeCelebration.

I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration.  All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Free Activities In Your Area

Home Depot Kids Workshop
Home Depot Kids Workshop

On the 1st Saturday of each month, Home Depot has kids workshops. You can register online as well as in the store.  You will be directed to the area where the kids workshop is and sign up there. You are given a Home Depot apron for your child as well as the project with instructions. Home Depot provides the projects, hammer, glue including the paint & brushes all free.

Every month the item you build is different. I've gone to a couple and have helped my kids make a flower pot, birdseed feeder, and bird house with a wizard of oz theme. You help your child hammer, glue and paint there own creation. It's fun and at the end you get a certificate and pin. You can put the pin on your apron and collect a different one every month. The workshop starts at 9:00 am and ends at 12:00 pm. Totally FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 - 12.  My daughter is 3 yrs old and I do the hard stuff like hammering and gluing and she can do the painting.  At the end we are all happy and that's what counts.  Home Depot also offers free workshops for adults, so check it out.

Lego Mini Model Build Ticket

On the 1st Tuesday of each month at your local Lego Store they have a monthly mini model build. It starts at 5:00 pm and goes until they run out. The mini Lego build are for children ages 6-14 only. Only one free mini build per child per month. If your child is not present you cannot get one as employees need to see them waiting on the line.

How it works:

You will get on line and will be given a ticket with number on it. The Lego store starts letting people in at 5:00 pm. Get there early if you can and wait. The earlier the better as the lines get very long. A new themed mini model will be available every month. You will then be given a package to build your Lego inside the store. They let people in a certain number at a time. The package includes instruction of how to build your Lego and the staff is very helpful if you have any questions or need assistance. Once completed you can take it home. The Lego's that you get you can use with others if you have some. The more you go the more you will amass completely FREE.

Another plus side is they have a free magazine that you can get a 2 year subscription. Just sign up here or at your local Lego Store.  The magazine has many cool projects that you can build with your child.  It also has coupons, yay.

This is another fun activity that my family enjoys to do.  You can find me waiting on line with my family as well at the Queens Center Mall.

Caillou's Furry Friends DVD Review

My son, Aidan loved watching Caillou when he was younger.  Now my daughter, Ashley is enjoying him too. She loves Caillou so much that that was her Christmas gift last year.

Caillou is a 4 year old boy with a vivid imagination.  He loves his little sister Rosie. Both enjoy going on adventure, playing with their friends and spending time with their family.

I like that each episode of Caillou teaches him about sharing, being a friend, and finding a common bond to relate to. Caillou has so many positive things that I like. I like to hear my daughter sing the opening song which I know by heart. I sometimes catch myself singing it when the kids are not around.

CAILLOU’S FURRY FRIENDS” will be available on DVD on January 6, 2015. The DVD run time is approximately 58 minutes and its SRP is $12.99. The DVD contains special features including coloring pages and activities.

Ashley watching Caillou's Furry Friends DVD

Episodes in the DVD

Dog Dilemma
When Sarah gets a new dog, Caillou is actually a little jealous. All Sarah wants to do is play with her new pup! Caillou feels a little annoyed with the dog...until he dog-sits for an afternoon and realizes Sarah’s dog is actually pretty great. He and Sarah talk about their feelings, and they decide it’d be fun for all of them to play together.

Caillou’s Cricket
Caillou inadvertently brings a cricket in the house and decides it’ll be fun to keep it as a pet. When the cricket gets loose and Caillou goes on a wild-cricket hunt, he’s suddenly able to see things from the cricket’s perspective...and decides to put the cricket back outside where it belongs.

Caillou’s Cross-Hop
Caillou doesn’t want to hold hands and obey safety rules...until he discovers a bunch of tiny frogs that need help crossing the street. Realizing it’s hard work helping others to cross the road safely, he has a new appreciation for Mommy and Daddy’s rules.

Kitty Conundrum
Caillou finds a tiny kitten while desperately searching for his beloved Rexy. He wants to keep the kitten, even though Mommy and Daddy say ‘no’ – they have Gilbert! When Samantha comes to the door to claim her lost kitten, “Whiskers,” Caillou fetches the kitty...and finds Rexy!  He remembers it isn’t fun losing something you care about, and happily returns the kitty to its rightful owner.

Lost and Found
When things begin to go missing around the house – like Mommy’s keys – Mommy blames Gilbert. Caillou is sure Gilbert didn’t take them...and he sets out to prove it!  Together, Caillou, Mommy and Rosie backtrack through the house and eventually discover Caillou’s theory was right – Gilbert didn’t take the keys – Mommy left them in the door handle!

Play with Me!
Caillou has no one to play with!  Mommy, Daddy, and Rosie are all busy, and Caillou is bored and frustrated...until he meets a ladybug who inadvertently shows Caillou that his family members aren’t the only ones who are busy – so are the birds and squirrels and ants. Caillou comes to realize that everyone is busy sometimes – even animals and insects – and he decides to get busy too...drawing his new friends.

Caillou Roars
After watching a nature show about lions, Caillou decides he wants to be a lion! He roars and paws his way around the house, causing Mommy and Daddy to remind him that there’s a time and place for everything. Caillou realizes the downside of being a lion when his ‘roars’ scare a baby in the park. He decides there really is a time and place for everything – and sometimes, he just needs to be a boy.

CAILLOU is designed for preschoolers and focuses on role-playing and “make-believe.” CAILLOU is produced by DHX Media. CAILLOU airs weekdays on PBS KIDS (check local listings for times in your area).

It's that time of year again! Christmas is coming. If your kids are like mine they have an endless list of toys that they want. My son was so excited when he saw a big box in our living room.  When he opened it he could not wait to play with it.  I received the Plants vs. Zombies Plank Walk Set and 70 Model Building Set.

My son, Aidan was building the Plant vs Zombies Pirate Seas Plank Walk Set and my daughter, Ashley the 70 Model Building Set.  Note these two toys contain small pieces that are not for children under 3 years of age.  I only allow my daughter to play when I am supervising her.  She is at that stage when she sees her brother playing with something she thinks its hers and she wants to play too. The K'nex building sets that I received are for children ages 7+.

I like these two toys.  My son has ADHD and has problems concentrating. When he is playing with the K'nex building set its like a light turns on and he uses his imagination to build different things. My son was building the body of one of the zombies and he was having difficulty trying to snap them into place. He asked me for help and I couldn't snap them either.  Some parts are hard to put together.  When I gave it back to him he was finally able to snap them in place.

Pros

good for small hands (motor skills)
good for focus and concentration
can be used with other K'nex building sets

Cons

small part not good for younger kids
some parts are hard to snap into place (zombie bodies)
some do not include a manual or are hard to follow/understand

Here is more information about these toys:
